We opted for some serious upgrades. Centroid with almost all the trimmings. The Boss controls worked, but we were concerned about parts, service and capabilities. A Centroid M-400 was chosen along with full digitizing capabilities, tool setter and some extra software. The package includes new servos, a new cabinet and all new wiring. Only thing we kept of the Boss controls was the gears from the servos and the air solenoid controls for the spindle and draw bar. Also added a 3 hp Hitachi inverter to handle the 3 phase spindle motor. This machine will not be run from the rotary phase converter. A single cabinet will go on the back of the mill. It is smaller than the smaller of the two original cabinets. The overall footprint with the cabinets removed is considerably smaller. The original mist coolant system and automatic lube system along with the air filters and controls will go on the side of the mill. The plan is to build a chip control cage for the table too. |
